Fall Kitchen Decorating Ideas and a Little Sunshine

Fall Kitchen Decorating Ideas and a Little Sunshine

fall-kitchen-decorating-idea

It’s been a little cold and dark and gloomy and around here lately.

I’m looking out the window right now at the dark storm clouds gathering.

I didn’t even realize how dark it was until I took these kitchen pictures yesterday to show you all a few fall kitchen decorating ideas.

It didn’t have all this light.

Not even close.

This picture has been brightened and lightened through the miracle of photo editing.

It originally looked more like this. Continue reading

Back Porch Pumpkin

We spent this weekend shopping for pumpkins.

You wouldn’t believe the pumpkins we found.

Seriously.

Warty ones and rainbow ones and textured ones and shiny ones and pumpkins that looked like they might have been Cinderella’s carriage once upon a time.

Had I been asleep?  Have I been under a rock?  When did pumpkins go all 2016?

And as I stood in the middle of the pumpkin aisle in the middle of pumpkin heaven pondering the mysteries of the universe, suddenly, out of the corner of my ear…

…I heard something that made my head twist around almost 180 degrees.Continue reading

Running With Pumpkins

Running With Pumpkins

fall with pumpkins

Today is the first day of school.

I’m consoling myself with coffee and trying to pretend like my hair actually has a style and distracting myself with pumpkin pictures.

The twins lined up for their first day of school picture in front of the house and they grinned and giggled and looked so full of life and teenager that I wanted to cry.

And the dogs and cats and I stood on the front walk and smiled watched them drive away and waved goodbye.

But on the inside?

My heart was running after them like the wind.

Here’s one of my favorite running stories ever.

It sums up today so much better than I ever could.Continue reading

Seven Simple Burlap Projects

Seven Simple Burlap Projects

burlap projects

Someone just told me that burlap really isn’t a thing anymore.

What?

Seriously?

Say it isn’t so.

(insert me weeping and sobbing and pounding the floor and moving to a place where people recognize the value of a utilitarian fabric)

And this is the part of the story where I go all Olivia Newton John and grab my leather jacket and permed hair and come hither stare and buck convention….

….and tell burlap that it’s the one that I want.

The one I really want.

Ooh. Ooh. Ooh.

Can we just decide that we don’t follow trends and that burlap is so easy to work and no-sewable and throw caution to the wind and decide that what the world needs now is a few more burlap projects?

Who’s with me?

Here are seven of my favorites worthy of a standing ovation.

Get ’em while there hot (or not so much any more depending on who you ask). 🙂Continue reading

Random thoughts on a Saturday morning:

1.  I have been binge watching episodes of Gilmore Girls on Netflix.  I can’t help it.  Just when one ends, Netflix loads another one for you without even asking.  I think to myself, just one more.  It’s kind of like brownies.

2.  I’ve given up diet coke this summer and replaced it with water.  My skin told me thank you.

3.  My kids have started playing Pokemon Go.  Apparently it’s a thing.  I asked them if a Pokemon was sitting next to me at the restaurant.

4.  In beauty news I found the best under eye concealer at WalMart.  It’s only $2.00 and it made me glow.

Or maybe that was the water. 🙂

Fall Decorating and a Zombie Rescue

Have you ever watched that show “What Would You Do?”

You know.

The one with the host who hides hidden cameras and then puts people in awkward situation and films their reactions to random things and sometimes they totally do the right thing and pay for the toy for the little child who’s mother can’t afford it and sometimes they just raise their eyebrows and walk away.

There are days when I feel like I’m about to be the star of that show.Continue reading

Pumpkins and Communication

Pumpkins and Communication

fall with pumpkins

Communication is a funny thing.

Some people are texters.

Some people are e-mailers.

Some people don’t even communicate at all.

But me?

I’m a phone talker.

Well….actually….I’m an in-person talker, but when that’s not available…..

…..the phone is always the next best thing.Continue reading

Note card Song

I woke up early this morning after getting in from Alabama at dark thirty and clutched the cup of coffee that someone was waving under my nose….

….and thought of all of  you.

I feel like I’ve lived a lifetime in the last three days.

Kind of like a contestant on The Amazing Race where they visit four countries and have to ride in a wheelbarrow while stacking peppers and learn a dance and repeat it three times wearing clogs and construct an entire rowboat and then sail it across the river and eat a plate full of delicacies in under four minutes.

Just like that.

Except I ate alligator.

And it tasted just like chicken.

I toured Lucy’s house (and I have pictures).  I worked on a show house and helped build a kitchen island and make chalkboards out of transoms and planned out the design of three rooms.  I had dinner with Ashley and I of course I have stories.

And I can’t wait to share it all with you next week.

But for today my coffee and I are going to rest and watch a Fixer Upper Marathon and share with you one of my favorite stories I’ve ever written.

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.Continue reading
