One Fall Hutch Decorated (Almost) Four Ways

One Fall Hutch Decorated (Almost) Four Ways

colorful-fall-hutch-kitchen

If I ever won an academy award, I’d thank this hutch.

It’s been with me through four houses, the birth of four children, the discovery of Pinterest and seven different shades of red lipstick.  I discovered it years ago in the back of a garage covered with tools and dripping paint and random bits of train track.

Good thing I speak abandoned hutch.

I thought it might be fun to decorate it (almost) four different ways with a little step by step on how I falled it up.

I’ll wait for you to grab refreshment.

Ready?

Let’s go. 🙂Continue reading

Here are a few random thoughts on a Saturday morning.

1. The sunrise this morning painted the trees orange.

2. I have decided that leggings are never going to be pants.  No matter how hard they try.  Even if they are velvet.  Even if they are faux denim with pockets.  Even if they try to rename themselves jeggings.  It’s simply not going to happen.

3. There’s a new Netflix series out called The Crown I’m going to start watching.  It had me at Queen Elizabeth.

4. I shopped at Target for Christmas and almost fainted in the aisle.  It was so amazing I can’t even.  I don’t want to spoil December on the blog for you, but it’s full of marble Christmas trees.

5.  Can we start a campaign to bring mittens back?

6.  Did anyone see the blonde-haired Cubs player’s wife sing God Bless America?  She was AMAZING.

6.  And finally, I have never, ever, ever been so happy….

….to see the back side of a week. 🙂Continue reading

fall-pumpkins

I’m not sure why or how, but this year fall is in every corner of the farmhouse.

It’s almost like it heard October and decided it needed another pumpkin.

I think that’s what I like the best about this season.

Fall isn’t fancy.

Fall isn’t over the top.

It’s the perfect date.  It’s a little unshaven, shows up with pumpkin pie….

….and smells really good.

Here’s some easy ideas for simple fall display ideas that leave room for dessert. 🙂Continue reading

Twenty Ways To Decorate For Halloween

20-ways-to-decorate

I’m never really sure about Halloween.

Some years I skip it and act like we aren’t friends and move right on to leaves and pumpkins and hay bales.

But sometimes?

When I get a fun idea or feel like a spider web is in my future….

….I break out a little orange and black and say boo.

Today I’m joining a few friends with 20 ways to decorate for Halloween.Continue reading

wood stick pumpkin project

In a couple of months this blog will be almost five years old.

I know, right?

I’m as surprised as you are.

Almost 5 years, over 5,000 pictures and over 1,000 posts later….

….and I’m not even a little bit tired.

I was thinking I should be.  I was thinking I probably should have run out of ideas or home decor or stories by now.

Not even close.

Not even one tiny bit.

I love writing this blog so much it makes my heart happy.  I love waking up and having coffee with you and laughing and touring the house and telling you about School House Rock and what happened to the encyclopedia.

So thank you.

Thank you for the encouragement.

Thank you for inspiring me every, single day.

And thank you for listening. 🙂Continue reading

Twelve Fall Door Decorating Ideas

Twelve Fall Door Decorating Ideas

fall-front-door-with-corn-husks

This looks like a blog, right?

It’s not.

It’s actually an idea factory.

Especially if you have a door that needs a little fall?  This is the place.

(total aside:  I went all Grease The Movie in my mind with that last phrase.  Grease is the time.  Grease is the place.  Grease is the motion.)

Apparently, this is an idea factory that chases rabbits, too. 🙂

Are you ready for some ideas?  I have three different doors I created for Kirkland’s with three different looks and tons of easy, simple projects anyone can create in minutes.

So buckle your idea seat belt….

….because here we go.Continue reading

happy fall wreath

I cannot WAIT to show you what I’ve been working on for fall.

(insert raising hands and stomping feet)

It’s my favorite fall ever.

Like a dancing around with spirit fingers singing “Don’t Stop Believin” kind of fall.

I’m not sure what it is about this year, maybe it was the flash flood or the humidity or the hot temperatures mixed with all the rainy days.

But I’m so over it.

Let’s talk fall.

Here’s 10 trends I’m using in my decor this year (most of them are under $5.00).Continue reading

Old Barn Ladder

Have you ever split an infinitive?

Whew.  Oh good.

Me, too.

In the never-ending attempt to try to write the best blog possible and learn more about life in general, I turned in a post to a professional grammeratician.  It was brutal.  I was doing all sorts of things I had no idea were wrong.  Like leaving two spaces after a sentence and misplacing a modifier and not spelling out the word inch and splitting infinitives.  Just between us, when I read the evaluation, I wasn’t even sure what an infinitive was.  I researched the subject and according to grammar 101 an infinitive is the word (to) + (the simple form of the verb).  Like “to run” or “to read” or “to paint” or “to write.”  Infinitives are the chameleons of the grammar world.  They can be nouns or adjectives or adverbs.

And I was splitting them.

No more.  I promise.  From this day forth I’ll give those infinitives the respect they deserve.

I want to creatively write like I’ve never done before.

Oops.

I did it again. 🙂Continue reading
