Don’t Wear White After Labor Day and Other Life Lessons

Don’t Wear White After Labor Day and Other Life Lessons

They say that April showers bring May flowers.

After several near-flash floods and gray skies and weeks of frizzy hair and 17 rained out baseball games….

….meet my April.

I went out to the garden yesterday and clipped dozens of flowers and arranged them in a yard sale soup tureen and put them in the middle of the family room and wished myself a happy Mother’s Day.

And now?

I want to celebrate with you.

I want to send you flowers and wish you a Happy Mother’s Day and entertain you with a little story…..

5 Simple Tips for Planting Hydrangeas

disclosure:  this post is brought to you by Endless Summer ® Hydrangeas.

At the back of the house, around the corner from the meadow and the hay bales is a tiny garden path with round stepping stones that leads to the side yard.

It kind of gets forgotten.

The flower bed is overgrown and a little neglected and left behind the rest of the yard.

Until now.

This weekend we pulled weeds and removed old plants and pruned existing shrubs and filled the flower beds with mulch and added a little bit of happiness with….

Fall centerpiece

Yesterday was learning day.

I learned that you can hollow out pumpkins and use them as vases and fill them with hydrangea.

I learned that a magnolia flower makes fall even brighter.

I learned that you can create this entire centerpiece for under $10.

Last week my red lipstick and I drove across the beautiful green rolling hills of Virginia to speak at an event at the General Store at Smith Mountain Lake.

But before I spoke.

I recently read about the most adventurous man in the world.

He planned and hoped and dreamed for years to climb the highest peaks on each continent and sail the seven seas.  He traveled the globe and sailed around the world and faced hardships and challenges and snow and ice and raging waters, but eventually he climbed that last mountain and sailed that last sea.

It is an incredible accomplishment.

One requiring great fortitude and extreme endurance.

I know.

I think I understand.

Because that’s exactly how I felt this week….

….when my hydrangea finally bloomed.Continue reading

Do you ever use the short-cut keys on your keyboard?

You know.

The control-whatever ones that save steps and time and make you feel like you’re a computer programmer.

Or my favorite of all favorites……

…..control + Z.Continue reading
