What My Coffee Filter Whispered To Me

What My Coffee Filter Whispered To Me

Have you ever seen something on Pinterest and become obsessed and think about it all the time and you knew that you had to create it yourself?

Except.

It wasn’t a DIY.

It was just a picture.

So you climbed the craft challenge mountain and tried to create it on your own and it didn’t work the first time so you tried something else and then that kind of worked and then you finally figured it out…

….and emerged victorious and showed that craft who was boss.

Oh, good.

You, too?

So you will understand why my heart beat a little faster when I saw this.Continue reading

One Fall Hutch Decorated (Almost) Four Ways

One Fall Hutch Decorated (Almost) Four Ways

If I ever won an academy award, I’d thank this hutch.

It’s been with me through four houses, the birth of four children, the discovery of Pinterest and seven different shades of red lipstick.  I discovered it years ago in the back of a garage covered with tools and dripping paint and random bits of train track.

Good thing I speak abandoned hutch.

I thought it might be fun to decorate it (almost) four different ways with a little step by step on how I falled it up.

I’ll wait for you to grab refreshment.

Ready?

Let’s go. 🙂Continue reading

The Song That Hope Wrote

The Song That Hope Wrote

This week we spent the evening listening to a choir performance by one of the twins.

It was a Quad-State choral festival about an hour away from us that started at 6:30 at night.

And just between us, to get there by the time it started required an effort of almost herculean proportions.

Seriously.

I had to corral everyone from their various after-school activities and make sure they were dressed in something other than an under armour sweatshirt and jeans and produce food for the journey and wait for my husband to get off of work and listen to 101 excuses as to why a sister or brother really shouldn’t have to sit through a choir concert their sister was singing at.

And by the time 6:30 rolled around I was not in a choir-listening mood.

Instead, I was exhausted.Continue reading

Someone once told me that one of the secrets to eating healthy is preparing ahead.

So I thought I would try it.

We had a basketball game last night and I knew I would want popcorn.  To me, basketball and popcorn go together like peanut butter and jelly and thunder and lightening and bread and butter.

And leg warmers and Aqua Net hairspray.

Popcorn isn’t really on the healthy list they way they make it at the ballgame.

So prepared ahead and brought a bag of broccoli instead.

I thought I could crunch it and pretend like it was popcorn.

Umm.

Not so much. 🙂Continue reading

Three Different Ideas for Decorating a Hutch for Fall

Three Different Ideas for Decorating a Hutch for Fall

dining room painted hutch

Remember this hutch?

Remember how I painted it white and then wasn’t sure because it looked too white.

Please refer to picture above.

There is a whole LOT of white going on around up in here.

So I asked for some advice from all of you.  And you gave it to me.  Wonderful, glorious, amazing advice.  I’d read each comment and think to myself that’s what the hutch needs.  And I’d run to the hutch and tell it that it was going to have a back covered in burlap (brilliant) or the back painted in a light stripe (insightful) or add dishes with some color (love that look) or a back wall covered with scrap book paper.

And so I thought I’d start our hutch adventure with piece of advice number 91….

….add some color for the holidays.

So I partnered with Kirkland’s to decorate all that neutral with a little color.  And because life is about choices so I wanted to try it three different ways to see which one we all liked best.

Time to “branch” out a little.

Total pun intended.Continue reading

white painted hutch

In super, exciting breaking news….

….we painted the hutch in the dining room white.

I couldn’t wait until it was finished.

In my mind it was going to be an amazing project.

You know.

The whole-see-it-be-inspired-dream-about-it-think-about-it-have-to-have-it-done-asap kind of project.

The kind of project you imagine and you just know it’s going to be perfect and you can see it finished before you ever even start.  I just knew I was going to walk by the dining room and see the hutch  painted white and sigh and look at the white dishes against my white hutch and all that beautiful neutral against the dark walls was going to make my heart sing.

Instead I think I changed keys somewhere midway through the second verse.Continue reading
