When Did Love Go All 2017?

When Did Love Go All 2017?

I guess spring cleaning is a thing because I just spent hours cleaning out the attic.

It wasn’t planned.

It wasn’t on the schedule.

I actually didn’t even realize I was doing it until about half way through when I recruited the rest of the family to form an assembly line.  It started with a box of bandanas and cowboy hats from a long ago birthday party and 47 boxes later…

…you could actually see the attic floor.

In the middle of the clean-up, I heard the twins in the corner of the room giggling.  Giggle after giggle after giggle started and stopped and then started all over again.  I heard one of them read something to the other and then they’d burst into fits of laughter.  Curious, I put down the vacuum cleaner parts I’d been collecting and started walking over to comedy central to see what they’d found.

Suddenly, I heard something that made my heart stop mid-beat.

Wait until you hear this, I heard my daughter say.

Creating a Vertical Succulent Garden With a DIH Workshop

Creating a Vertical Succulent Garden With a DIH Workshop

What is it about succulents that makes us smile?

The tiny leaves?

The different colors?

The layers and layers of texture?

Whatever.  However.  Whyever.

Succulents rule the world….

…especially when you use them to create a project like this.

Have you noticed that there’s a way of talking that’s taking over the airwaves and the internet and the local news media?

It’s kind of random and sometimes annoying and it sounds liiiiikkkkkkeeeeee thiiiiissssss.

When someone talks like this, the words at the end of the sentence just trail off….

…..as if the speaker is kind of bored with life.

As if they can barely summon the energy to finish what they are saying.

I just found out it has a name.

It’s called Vocal Fry.Continue reading

If I had a dime for every baseball game I have sat through, I could buy a tropical island in the south pacific.

I’ve sat through baseball games in the rain.

And the cold.

And the sunshine.

I’ve seen runs and hits and slides into home plate and bunts and outs.

I’ve sat through games with a team in the depths of despair because they were down by 14 runs.

I’ve sat through games with a team with hit after hit, scoring runs like they were hot cakes.

And through it all, there’s one thing I’ve learned.

There’s always baseball tomorrow.Continue reading

Happy House 1

If I could be best friends with a house anywhere in the 48 contiguous states…..

….this would be the one.

Seriously.

It’s located at the end of a winding driveway lined with flowers and green grass and tucked away under the trees.

And when you open the back door and see the light streaming in through the green shuttered windows and the sunbeams dancing on the brick pavers…..you know that you know that you know…..

…..that you are home.Continue reading

Back in pre-historic times when the dinosaurs ruled the earth and I started blogging….

…..I met this blogger.

Don’t you love a story that begins like that?

Actually I think I met her house first.  I found her front door on Pinterest and followed it to her kitchen and the tiny cobblestones that surrounded her home.  And I left a comment on her blog full of so many exclamation points that it broke every rule in the MLA handbook.

I remember thinking that was the end of the conversation.  I mean….after all…..she was a designer.  A real designer.  With clients and a portfolio and beautiful homes she had furnished from shops I had only read about in magazines.

And I was a blogger.  A blogger who shopped at the side of the road and (even better)…..

…..the side of the lake. 🙂

I just realized that somewhere along the way….

….I gave birth to a planner.

Can you even believe it?

Me.

The one who painted the leaf chargers 30 minutes before this picture was taken.

The one who stuck and peeled a recipe on a wall without a level.

The one who painted numbers and hung curtains and stenciled armoires and added stripes and decorated mantels…..

….all without a plan.Continue reading

Stenciled Concrete Pavers

Stenciled Concrete Pavers

 Stenciled-Concrete-Pavers

Until about a month ago we were a non-jumping household.

To get from place to place….we walked everywhere.

Well…..most of the time we walked.

Sometimes we walked really fast.

Sometimes we ran.

Sometimes we skipped.

And….truthfully…..there was even the occasional slight hop.Continue reading
