Life In Season

Life In Season

Isn’t it incredible when a friend dreams big?

When they reach for the stars and the moon and a few random galaxies…

….and something amazing shows up?

That’s how I feel about this book.

It made me laugh and sigh and think and it inspired me and filled my heart and made me the proudest of the proud.

I can’t help it.

You see….I’m kind of its aunt….

….because its authors are my long-long sisters.Continue reading

Five Simple Tips for Photo Editing

Five Simple Tips for Photo Editing

Can we trade tips?

See here’s the thing.  I know a little about photography and making pictures sharper and editing photos and making them brighter.

But baking chocolate chip cookies?

I got nothing.

I tried for the zillionth time to make them over the weekend and for the zillionth time they ran off the edge of the baking stone.  I just can’t get them right.  They are either hard as stone or too runny and the chocolate chips scold me from the batter and wish they had showed up in someone else’s kitchen.

So I thought I would ask you.

You.  The incredible baker.  You.  The person with the happy chocolate chips.  You.  The person waiting for a call back from The Great American Baking Show.

I’ll talk about my very best photography editing tips and maybe you can give me your very best tip for making chocolate chips behave.

My kitchen is all ears. 🙂Continue reading

A Spring Tour With Emojis

A Spring Tour With Emojis

Hello and welcome to almost spring.

I’m super excited about today.  I’m linking up with some of my favorite bloggers on the planet for a spring tour put together by Jen and Randi to celebrate flowers and spring and green and grass and blue skies and waving to winter in the rear view mirror.

If you are visiting from Courtney’s, I’m so happy that you stopped by.

Truly.

It’s super nice to meet you, but before we get started….

….I have a confession to make.

I need to up my emoji game.Continue reading

Five Minute Flower Arrangement With an Extra Dose of Perspective

Five Minute Flower Arrangement With an Extra Dose of Perspective

When we remodeled the kitchen at the farmhouse, we started with the floor.

I thought it would be easy and five-minutes and not-too expensive and done before Dancing With the Stars came on.

I thought wrong.

We pulled up four layers of flooring on our kitchen floor before we reached the original floors underneath.  It was an arduous journey, full of twists and turns and disappointment and the occasional moment of triumph.

Kind of like 20,000 leagues under the sea.

And when the final floor was revealed, my husband called me over with dismay in his voice,

“Oh no,” he sighed.  “What are we going to do about this?”Continue reading

Spring Door Decorating Ideas

Spring Door Decorating Ideas

This post is brought to you by Kwikset.

Are you a front door or a back door house?

A front door house is a little fancier.  There’s usually a living room right off the entry that’s clean most of the time because no one really ever eats Captain Crunch in there.

A back door house is a little more all about coming on in and having sweet tea.  There’s usually a recycling bin and some bikes stacked up and Christmas wreaths that have to be put up in the attic you have to wade through to get to the entry way.

If you had to choose, which one would it be?

Which door is your house?

Two For the Price of One

Two For the Price of One

flowers and quote

You know when you go to a yard sale and you find the perfect basket that’s missing a handle and a little lopsided, but you know that you can make it perfect with spray paint and some imagination. So you tuck it under your arm and you poke around at the yard sale a little more and find a random drawer for only $2.00 because no one really knows what to do with a drawer without a dresser to go with it.

But you do.

You know what to do with a drawer because you just saw on Pinterest where people were taking random drawers and making them into organizers on the wall.  So you walk up to the owner of the yard sale with kind of a pitiful look on your face and hold out the broken basket and the drawer and tell her you only have $2.00 and if you bought the basket would she throw in the drawer for free?

And she shrugs and says yes and you smile inside and skip off into the sunset with your treasures.

Two for the price of one.

That’s a lot like this post.  I was in the middle of a photo shoot yesterday and I finished and had all these amazing flowers and I had tossed a few on the table and I looked at them and was so totally inspired to create a little flower art and add some quotes about spring.  I made them for you and you can pin them or save them to your ipad or computer for inspiration or print them off or make them your home screen or fold them into a paper origami centerpiece.  Just a little spring gift from me to you.

But we couldn’t just have beautiful spring flowers with quotes.

This is story central.

So because it’s spring and I’m feeling mushy, I added one of my favorite love stories, too.

See what I mean?  Two for the price of one.

Now where did I put that drawer. 🙂Continue reading

Whatever happened to food just being what it is?

Have you noticed that food is evolving?

What is going on?

Hamburgers are becoming tacos.

Cookies are becoming banana splits.

Chips are becoming dill pickles.

Tacos are becoming chicken sandwiches.

And chips are becoming dill pickles.

I miss the days when a cookie was just known for its chocolate chips. 🙂Continue reading

DIY Flower Monogram Letter

DIY Flower Monogram Letter

Bonzai and I watched the last episode of Downton Abbey last night.

He was there to console me.

I won’t give away the details in case you haven’t seen it, but I will say this.  After watching six seasons where someone always was on trial for murder or leaving for Europe because they got replaced as head of the hospital or having their house turned into a convalescent home for wounded soldiers or running off to France to try out a potential husband, it was disconcerting to see so many happy endings.

And so gratifying.

And truly the end of an era.

If you haven’t seen it yet and your heart needs something to smile about today, run….don’t walk….to watch the final episode.

And if watching Downton Abbey isn’t your thing?

I have a fun DIY Flower Monogram Letter project for you.

Either choice, it’s a great way to spend two hours. 🙂Continue reading
