Twelve Fall Door Decorating Ideas

Twelve Fall Door Decorating Ideas

This looks like a blog, right?

It’s not.

It’s actually an idea factory.

Especially if you have a door that needs a little fall?  This is the place.

(total aside:  I went all Grease The Movie in my mind with that last phrase.  Grease is the time.  Grease is the place.  Grease is the motion.)

Apparently, this is an idea factory that chases rabbits, too. 🙂

Are you ready for some ideas?  I have three different doors I created for Kirkland’s with three different looks and tons of easy, simple projects anyone can create in minutes.

So buckle your idea seat belt….

….because here we go.Continue reading

I Wish I Would Have Brought A Tambourine

I Wish I Would Have Brought A Tambourine

Mantel fall Thistlewood

This weekend my husband and I spoke at a ladies retreat in Tennessee.

He strummed his guitar and sang praise and worship songs and I stood on stage and squeaked along with him and wished I would have brought a tamborine.

Squeaking aside…..

… was an amazing experience.

After the singing finished, my husband squeezed my hand and walked off the stage.

And then in front of an audience of some of the most incredible women I have ever met and a pair of twinkling brown eyes….

….I started to speak.

Four Simple Tips for Decorating With Trays

Four Simple Tips for Decorating With Trays

Ideas on Decorating with Trays

Third grade was a banner year for me.

I learned how to walk my hands all the way down the brick wall on the side of the school until I ended up in a back bend.

I won the contest for walking the farthest around the edge of the playground while hula hooping.

I came in second in the school multiplication bee (total aside:  I lost on 12 x 13).

No one ate paste in our class anymore.

And I discovered how to paint-by-number.Continue reading

How to Thanksgiving Table Ideas

A couple of months ago I came to the realization that….

….I have this mildly annoying habit.

I hum to myself.

All. The. Time.

I mean….of course….I don’t think it’s annoying at all.

But I’m me.  I’m the hummer, not the one being inadvertently hummed at and I never even notice that I’m doing it.

Do you have a habit like that?  One minute you’re decorating a table and the next minute you’re humming all the verses and the chorus from “Let It Go” from Frozen….

….and you never even noticed you hummed a note.Continue reading

The Thankful Tree and a Giveaway

The Thankful Tree and a Giveaway

This post and giveaway are brought to you by Birch Lane.

Thanksgiving Tree

One of my favorite books is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.

If you’ve read it….you are nodding right about now.

If you haven’t I’ll totally Reader’s Digest it for you.

It’s about a tree who loves a little boy with all her heart.  When he is young he plays under the tree and swings from the branches and eats buckets of apples.  And as he grows older he sells the apples from the tree and uses her branches to make a house and her trunk to make a boat to sail away and explore the world.

And when he is older and his travels are done, he sits on the stump and rests…..

….and returns to the tree that he loves.

“And the tree was happy.”

Ten Minute Decorating Ideas: Wood Block Fall Banner

 Autumn Corrected Banner

Dear 10 minutes,

I am so glad you were well spent yesterday.

All 600 seconds of you.

Because I had a mantle without a banner and fall was in the air.

I was almost (this close) to pulling out the leg warmers from circa 1990 and adding lace to the top and going all Flashdance with my fall decorating.

Good thing I ran out of time. 🙂Continue reading

Fall Decorating Ideas (and a Thank You)

Fall Decorating Ideas (and a Thank You)

easy fall decorating ideas

Do you remember the commercial from Dove that ran last year?

It featured women who sat behind a curtain and described themselves in great detail to a sketch artist.  He asked them about their facial features like their chin and their hair and their eyebrows and cheekbones and so on.  They described themselves as they saw themselves to the artist.

He never saw them.

He simply drew the picture from what they described to him.

Then….each woman was briefly introduced to a stranger….someone who had never met her before.  And after a short visit…each woman left and the stranger was asked to describe the woman he or she had just met…..

… the exact same sketch artist.Continue reading
