Wheat, Burlap, Fall and Magazines

Wheat, Burlap, Fall and Magazines

I’m extra falling it this year because a magazine is coming in just a few weeks to take pictures of the inside and outside of the house.

I can’t even believe I just typed that last sentence with a straight fingers.

I’m a little all over the place with it.

I vacillate between washing basketball uniforms and helping my son study for the PSAT with really big vocabulary words and forgetting all about the magazine…

…to staying up late at night trying to be extra fall-clever.Continue reading

Dyed Burlap Painted Leaf Pillow

Dyed Burlap Painted Leaf Pillow

My grandmother never threw anything away.

Not a thing.

She kept drawers full of sheets of old tin foil and washed out her plastic bags and cut her towels into smaller towels and re-grated soap to make new soap.  She could stretch a dollar and a aluminum pie plate farther than anyone else I knew.

She grew up during the Great Depression when every piece of every thing had to be recycled.  That’s what they did.  That’s how they made it.

I wish I had more of her inside me.  I toss everything.  If something is worn or tired or holey, I’m the first one to wish it well and escort it to the trash.

But this weekend I did something a little different.

I went all my grandmother on myself and saved a pillow.Continue reading

A Little More Tour With That Fall

A Little More Tour With That Fall

Hello friend.

I’m so happy you are here.

You’ve made my entire week.

My friend Laura from Finding Home Farms put together a little fall tour today.

I’m throwing open the door to the farmhouse and showing off the kitchen and the family room and fluffing the pillows and picking the Captain Crunch up off the floor and filling the sweet tea glasses.

Let’s get this party started.Continue reading

10 Fall Decorating Trends I’m Decorating With Right Now

10 Fall Decorating Trends I’m Decorating With Right Now

happy fall wreath

I cannot WAIT to show you what I’ve been working on for fall.

(insert raising hands and stomping feet)

It’s my favorite fall ever.

Like a dancing around with spirit fingers singing “Don’t Stop Believin” kind of fall.

I’m not sure what it is about this year, maybe it was the flash flood or the humidity or the hot temperatures mixed with all the rainy days.

But I’m so over it.

Let’s talk fall.

Here’s 10 trends I’m using in my decor this year (most of them are under $5.00).Continue reading

farmhouse bedroom

If I had one tip I could pass on to my children.

One tip that could change their world.

One tip that would make them more productive citizens and help them to face the day and solve the problems of the world.

It would be this…..

….make your bed.

I know it’s simple.  I know it might seem silly.  I know it seems like the smallest of tasks.

But making a bed sets the routine for the day and ties up loose ends and straightens everything out just a bit….

….and helps you pause just a moment before you take on the world.

And now it’s your turn.

If you had to pass on one tip, what would it be?

Seven Simple Burlap Projects

Seven Simple Burlap Projects

burlap projects

Someone just told me that burlap really isn’t a thing anymore.

Say it isn’t so.

(insert me weeping and sobbing and pounding the floor and moving to a place where people recognize the value of a utilitarian fabric)

And this is the part of the story where I go all Olivia Newton John and grab my leather jacket and permed hair and come hither stare and buck convention….

….and tell burlap that it’s the one that I want.

The one I really want.

Ooh. Ooh. Ooh.

Can we just decide that we don’t follow trends and that burlap is so easy to work and no-sewable and throw caution to the wind and decide that what the world needs now is a few more burlap projects?

Who’s with me?

Here are seven of my favorites worthy of a standing ovation.

Get ’em while there hot (or not so much any more depending on who you ask). 🙂Continue reading

Random thoughts on a Memorial Day weekend:

1.  I love the lady with the Chewbacca mask.  May we all live life with so much joy at the smallest of things.

2.  I had no idea when I wrote this post that this tip would go viral.  Apparently we all have couches that need assistance.

3.  I’m officially addicted to Family Feud.  I can’t help myself.  Steve Harvey has the best facial expressions.

4.  I ditched the purple and painted my toes red.  Just like my Lee Press On Nails from this military love story.

5.  Someone asked me if I had big plans for Memorial Day weekend and I said no.  I said I was just spending it with family and friends.

And then I thought just having family and friends around?

I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂Continue reading

winter farmhouse n snow with a red door

Random Christmas questions (and one breakfast question) on a Saturday morning:

1.  What are your thoughts on antlers on the Christmas tree?

Too much?

Not enough?

2.  What are your thoughts on going all old school with red and green and adding plaid?

3.  What are your thoughts on McDonald’s serving breakfast all day and leaving the sausage biscuit off the all-day menu?

4.  What are your thoughts on Christmas sweaters that blink?

And what if they sing?

Inquiring minds want to know.Continue reading
