A Before and After Sprinkled With Friendship

A Before and After Sprinkled With Friendship

Have you ever noticed that you call different friends for different things?

There are the friends you call because you think of something funny and you love to hear their laugh.

There are the friends you call when your car breaks down by the side of the road and it’s midnight and you left home wearing slippers because you were just running out to get milk.

There are the friends you call when you discover that Chip and Joanna have a new show on HGTV because you know they’ll scream with you.

There are the friends you call when you need to read someone a blog post because you know they will silently laugh in all the right places and not interrupt (Ashley…I’m looking at you).

And then?

There are the friends you call for a little sunshine and conversation and they stop by your house with all of that….

….and the missing piece of a design puzzle.

Master Bathroom Makeover (and My Favorite White Paint Color)

Master Bathroom Makeover (and My Favorite White Paint Color)

I’m so excited today for a zillion reasons.

Here’s my top three:

1. I’m joining a fun group of bloggers today to talk about our favorite colors.

2. The master bathroom is finished and I’m showing you all the before’s and after’s today.

3. I just discovered that beets in a salad are extra yummy.

Isn’t life amazing?

Thistlekeeping

Thistlekeeping

Random thoughts on a Saturday morning:

1. We had rough storms here this week.  But today?  The sun is shining and the grass is peeking through the dry ground.

2. I just finished the book Victoria by Daisy Goodwin.  It’s really good and an easy read if you like history and England and tiny queens.  I think I liked it better than the show.  Anyone else read anything good lately?  I’m looking for a good mystery.

3. What is up with the new hair style where you show your roots?  ON PURPOSE.

4. We are starting on the best new idea for a wall for a room this week.  I can’t wait to show you the details.  Fingers crossed it works out like I’m planning.

5. Basketball ended this week and baseball starts next week.

Good thing.

My son told me his muscles were ready. 🙂Continue reading

Thistlekeeping on a Monday

Thistlekeeping on a Monday

Random thoughts on a Monday morning:

1. The Oscars.  Oh nooooooooooo.  I felt so sorry for Warren Beatty.

2.  Thistlekeeping missed Saturday because I spent the weekend in Kansas.  You haven’t lived until you’ve driven through cornfields with the sun shining.

3.  I just found the coolest attachment for the top of a tripod.  It takes pictures from every angle you can imagine.  I think I’m ordering one this week.

4.  I cannot thank you enough for all the amazing recommendations for shows from last week.  If you are looking for a show with a British accent, check out all the recommendations in the comments here.

5.  Am I the only one all about Fixer Upper this season?  Just when I think they’ve thought of everything….

…I see an office like this one.

Mondays after a good weekend make me happy just to be alive. 🙂Continue reading

As the Bathroom Renovation Turns

As the Bathroom Renovation Turns

Welcome to the next edition of as the bathroom renovation turns.

Where a humble homeowner and her imagination transform an awkward master bath and an over-sized powder bath into a bathroom poetry.

How do I love you little bathroom…let me count the ways?

Let’s review.

When we last left our master bath….

….it looked like this.Continue reading

The Day the Bathroom Went from After to Before

The Day the Bathroom Went from After to Before

Remember when I talked about renovating my bathroom last year?

Remember when I told you about our bathroom renovation ideas and that we were moving walls and making changes and living high on the bathroom hog?

And then?

I never ever talked about it again.

I didn’t mention it or reference it or show you any more ideas.  It’s like the bathroom renovation that was never meant to be.

Until now.

Now this bright shiny clean bathroom with its sparkling sink and fluffy rug and claw foot bathtub and white bead board walls….

…..now it looks like this.Continue reading

Bathroom Organizing Ideas

Bathroom Organizing Ideas

disclosure:  This post is sponsored by Kirkland’s.

When I was younger I thought that organizing was super-overrated.

“Why would anyone want to be organized….when they could live like this,” I’d say to my piles of clothes draped over chairs in my room.

“I know right where everything is anyway,” I’d whisper to the closet floor.

“I’m organized in my mind,” I’d tell the stacks of papers on my desk.

But now?

I love organization.

Especially when it starts with 2017.

You, too?  Oh good. 🙂

Here are some of my favorite bathroom organizing ideas.Continue reading

master bath project

Have you ever seen this door before when I photographed the master bedroom?

Are you going all Let’s Make a Deal right now and asking yourself what’s behind it?

I’m a little nervous to show you.

This is definitely not the farmhouse’s moment.

You see….it’s the master bathroom.

A never-been-seen-before-you-won’t-even-believe-what-it-looks-like-because-you-might-head-for-the-hills kind of space.

And today I’m opening the door.

Are you ready?
