Simple Ideas for Controlling Clutter

Simple Ideas for Controlling Clutter

Clutter is like that last Christmas party guest that won’t leave.

They’ve eaten your cheese dip and knocked an ornament off your tree and ensconced themselves in a chair telling you about their trip to the grand canyon for the fifth time.

You look longingly at the door.

Leave clutter, leave, you tell yourself.

But it never does.

Take charge.

Take control.

Take over….

….and show that cheese-eating, ornament-knocking, grand-canyon visiting clutter to the door.

Here are my very best simple ideas for controlling clutter.Continue reading

The Day Superman Came to Town

The Day Superman Came to Town

Tomorrow I’ll be at Chapel Market.

If you are coming, I can’t wait to meet you.

If you live in a land far far away, please know that you will be missed.

I know this year will even better than last year.

And so much easier.

Because this year I’m bringing an assistant who is faster than a speeding bullet and more powerful than a locomotive and who can leap tall buildings with a single bound….

….my oldest son Denton.

To celebrate him, here’s one of my favorite stories ever about the day that Superman came to Chapel Market.

Hello Alabama.

You know I adore you.

I’m coming for a visit this weekend and I’m bringing my red lipstick and my best earrings and some of the cutest stuff you’ve ever seen for the annual Market on Chapel Hill at Pike Road just around the corner from Montgomery.

If you are planning on going, I’ll be in the main building at the back with my sweet friend Lucy from Lucy’s Inspired who makes this awesome, one-of-a-kind jewelry.  This year I’m partnering with Painted Fox to bring my collection to life.

Want a sneek peek of what I’m taking with me?

I’ve put together a few pictures and some ideas of how to use them in your house.

Ready.

Set.

Go.Continue reading

Happy morning.

I’m sorry it took me so long to get here.

I was talking to my mother.

Sometimes I get on the phone with her and it’s hours before I even come up for air.  We talk about family and teaching and funny stories and opinions and things that make us laugh and things that make us cry and why pumpkins are amazing.

And when I got off the phone this morning, one thing kept dancing around in my head over and over and over again.

When did she get so smart?

I think it happened when I wasn’t looking. 🙂Continue reading

Back to School Office Organization (and a Little Before and After)

Back to School Office Organization (and a Little Before and After)

This post was written in collaboration with Birch Lane.

In not-organization news I spent a not-productive Sunday watching an entire marathon of Flea Market Flip.

Have you ever seen that show?

It features two teams of two people who meet at a flea market and are given a certain amount of money and an hour and three categories of projects to create and they have to shop the market and buy loads of sad, neglected parts of this and that and turn it into something amazing.  Then then the next day they bring their treasures back to the market and try to sell them and whoever makes the most profit wins $5000.

I know all of this because I spent hours yesterday watching the show.

I couldn’t help it.

As soon as I saw the teams I would start rooting for one of them and when I saw what they bought I had to see what they turned it into and then I had to see who won.  And I kept thinking that this was going to be the last show and that any minute an episode of House Hunters was about to be on.

Good thing I got all organized before the whole Flip Market Flip debaucle.

And here’s how I did it.Continue reading

I was so hoping today was National Basket day….

….and we could celebrate together.

I mean….after all…..May is full of holidays.

There’s No Socks Day and Star Wars Day (may the fourth be with you) and International Tuba Day and Buy A Musical Instrument Day and No Dirty Dishes Day (my personal favorite) and of course….Memorial Day.

But I didn’t see National Basket Day on the calendar.

So let’s start a trend.

Today…..May 6, 2014.

I’ll show you a basket idea I just made…and you can tell me if you even like baskets and if you’ve seen any cute basket ideas lately and what kind of baskets are your favorite and what you use baskets for and how you decorate with baskets in your home and we can discuss all things basket….

….and celebrate together. 🙂Continue reading

Spray Painted Numbered Baskets

Spray Painted Numbered Baskets

how-to-make-topiaries

The day I decided to make spray painted numbered baskets…..

…..was the day all the turtles in the county decided to cross the road.

I’m still not really sure what prompted the mass exodus to the other side of the street….but they were everywhere.

Little ones and big ones and tiny ones.

All making a trek across the black top.

Have you ever seen a turtle in the middle of the road?Continue reading
