Dream a Little Dream

Dream a Little Dream

Southern Romance Dream Home Front Porch Have you ever had a dream?

You know.  Something you want more than anything.  Something that almost seems impossible, but you dream it all the same.  Something deep in your heart that makes it beat a little faster when you think about it.  And sometimes when the day is rough and the road is long and the light at the end of the tunnel seems an eternity away….

….you pull that dream out of your pocket.

And imagine.

And envision.

And hope.

And in that instant, with your dream in hand….

…..suddenly the world is a better place.

Southern Romance Dream House

My friend Esther had a dream.

She wanted to take an old southern home….a home with history and stories to tell and beautiful old architecture that had fallen on hard times….

….and bring it back to life.

But she was busy running a company.

And being a CEO.

And living in Canada.

And the dream seemed an eternity away.

And then one day she followed her heart to Alabama and met this house.

A house with beautiful architecture and chippy columns and vintage mailboxes and worn floorboards and high ceilings and corbels and the original fireplaces and a giant front porch.

And….oh the stories that front porch could tell.

Maybe it was the chippy corbels.

Maybe it was the tiny window at the top of the house that almost winks at you.

Or maybe it was that wonderful, incredible front porch with all its tall tales of generations of laughter.

Whatever the reason, whatever the how’s and what’s and why’s….somehow, someway, Esther listened to her heart….

….and jumped.

Knee-deep in the most incredible renovation.

Esther writes a blog about the renovation and the experience and the house.  You can find it here.

You can see all the before’s and the before the before’s in her picture gallery here.

But my favorite part of her journey?  Her online webisodes where she documents every step of her journey.  You can find them all here.

Here’s me with some of my friends on that incredible front porch.

I’m the one with the blonde hair and red lipstick and sunglasses trying to look as amazing as I feel.

Right after this picture was taken, I stood there on that porch with the wind blowing my hair and the leaves of the trees rustling and the sun peeking out from behind the clouds….

…and saw the dream that was unfolding right before my eyes.

It made me feel incredible.

Like I could do anything.  Accomplish anything.  Be anything I wanted with enough determination and heart.

If Esther could dream, so could I.

So I left the front porch, returned home, took out my dream and dusted it off and started down the long and winding path of making it happen.

And Friday I found out that my little dream is coming true.  Something amazing and wonderful and incredible beyond anything is actually happening.

Seriously.

Dream details coming soon. 🙂

PS  So just in case the porch was wondering….

….dreams really can come true.

  7. Beautiful post and happy to see that she is following her heart. But sometimes dreams can be sad, waiting for it to come true, when it appears that it will never happen. Dreams are hopes for the future and sometimes they take the much needed finances to make them happen.

  12. Oh I’m hearing that old Jimney Cricket song….When You Wish Upon a Star
Song by Cliff Edwards, Paul Smith, …
When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
    Anything your heart desires
    Will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
    No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
    As dreamers do
    Fate is kind
She brings to those to love
    The sweet fulfillment of
    Their secret longing
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
    Your dreams come true

Loved your post…looking forward to reading all about yours!
    Take care!

  30. Hi there! I’m usually a lurker (I know, that makes me sound like a creeper), so I don’t comment, but I have been following your blog for a while now. I just had to comment because this post resonated with me so much. I have a huge dream for our family, and on most days, it seems completely impossible. But after reading this, that HUGE dream seems a little closer within reach. It seems possible, even probable! Thank you for all the encouragement to just jump. I think I’m ready to jump and see where we land.

  31. Okay little Rock Star… I have been away for 3 weeks and just came across this T-E-A-S-E-R! I’ve been frantically going all your posts since this one and can’t find the ‘dream’. I am going crazy. Please tell me you are writing a book. I will be the first to pre-order online sweetie.
