Creating a Vertical Succulent Garden With a DIH Workshop

Creating a Vertical Succulent Garden With a DIH Workshop

What is it about succulents that makes us smile?

The tiny leaves?

The different colors?

The layers and layers of texture?

Whatever.  However.  Whyever.

Succulents rule the world….

…especially when you use them to create a project like this.

Life In Season

Life In Season

Isn’t it incredible when a friend dreams big?

When they reach for the stars and the moon and a few random galaxies…

….and something amazing shows up?

That’s how I feel about this book.

It made me laugh and sigh and think and it inspired me and filled my heart and made me the proudest of the proud.

I can’t help it.

You see….I’m kind of its aunt….

….because its authors are my long-long sisters.Continue reading

The Day the Bathroom Went from After to Before

The Day the Bathroom Went from After to Before

Remember when I talked about renovating my bathroom last year?

Remember when I told you about our bathroom renovation ideas and that we were moving walls and making changes and living high on the bathroom hog?

And then?

I never ever talked about it again.

I didn’t mention it or reference it or show you any more ideas.  It’s like the bathroom renovation that was never meant to be.

Until now.

Now this bright shiny clean bathroom with its sparkling sink and fluffy rug and claw foot bathtub and white bead board walls….

…..now it looks like this.Continue reading

The Day Superman Came to Town

The Day Superman Came to Town

Tomorrow I’ll be at Chapel Market.

If you are coming, I can’t wait to meet you.

If you live in a land far far away, please know that you will be missed.

I know this year will even better than last year.

And so much easier.

Because this year I’m bringing an assistant who is faster than a speeding bullet and more powerful than a locomotive and who can leap tall buildings with a single bound….

….my oldest son Denton.

To celebrate him, here’s one of my favorite stories ever about the day that Superman came to Chapel Market.

Hello Alabama.

You know I adore you.

I’m coming for a visit this weekend and I’m bringing my red lipstick and my best earrings and some of the cutest stuff you’ve ever seen for the annual Market on Chapel Hill at Pike Road just around the corner from Montgomery.

If you are planning on going, I’ll be in the main building at the back with my sweet friend Lucy from Lucy’s Inspired who makes this awesome, one-of-a-kind jewelry.  This year I’m partnering with Painted Fox to bring my collection to life.

Want a sneek peek of what I’m taking with me?

I’ve put together a few pictures and some ideas of how to use them in your house.

Ready.

Set.

Go.Continue reading

Get Your Surprised Face Ready

Get Your Surprised Face Ready

mercury bottles

Remember when were younger and your parents bought you presents for Christmas in June and hid them away until December 25 and one day when you opened the drawers in the spare bedroom looking for an umbrella and you accidentally discovered them?

There they would be, simply minding their own business tucked away in over-sized sacks.

And you would want more than anything to take a peek inside those bags.

Just a peek.

But you wanted to make the nice list, so you shut the drawer and walked away and tried to be good, but then you paused for a moment and turned around and opened the drawer one more time….

….and started practicing your surprised face for Christmas morning. 🙂Continue reading

Tips for Ordering Replacement Windows

Tips for Ordering Replacement Windows

This post was written in collaboration with Window World.

family room farmhouse style

It’s here.

If you’ve followed along for the last couple of months, you’ve seen the before of the windows (yikes) and then I collected tips from you on what to look for when buying windows and then I went and visited the store and actually chose the windows and today we are window measuring and ordering the windows (insert a dozen exclamation points).

Double hung, 4000 series windows with dual tilt latches and a locking screen.

Yep.

It’s like a window soap opera.

With a really happy ending.

A Really, Really, Really Big Favor

A Really, Really, Really Big Favor

golden retriever

This is Buddy.

He’s the one with the ball in his mouth.

Several years ago we rescued him from our local Humane Society.

We didn’t really pick him.  It’s more like he picked us.  We were told he rambunctious and was full of energy and life and mischievousness.

Oh good, we thought.

He’ll fit right in. 🙂Continue reading
