A Tour of the House for Hope

A Tour of the House for Hope

I have written 1,315 posts on this blog.

Some of them funny.

Some of them not as funny as I thought they were.

Some of them introspective.

Some of them room befores and afters and furniture makeovers and DIY projects and the occasional post about hay bales and gas station pizza in the country.

But this post?  The one you are about to read?  Of all the more than thirteen hundred posts…

….this one is the longest.

I couldn’t help it.

The house for hope turned out that amazing. 🙂Continue reading

As the Bathroom Renovation Turns

As the Bathroom Renovation Turns

Welcome to the next edition of as the bathroom renovation turns.

Where a humble homeowner and her imagination transform an awkward master bath and an over-sized powder bath into a bathroom poetry.

How do I love you little bathroom…let me count the ways?

Let’s review.

When we last left our master bath….

….it looked like this.Continue reading

Before and After Guest Bedroom

Before and After Guest Bedroom

disclosure:  This post is sponsored by Birch Lane.

Here’s a little throwback Thursday.

I’m not sure if a little throwback on a Thursday should make you a little wistful.

But this one does.

This is the before.  This room was the twins’ room when they were younger.  This is the room of tea parties and stuffed animal boarding school and fancy hats and dance parties and stories that never ended.  Before they moved upstairs and ditched the monograms and chose even brighter colors and painted murals on their walls.

The room was a little sad when they left.

After all, who doesn’t love a fancy hat and a tea party with choreography.

But now?

It’s repainted and restyled and redone….

…and ready for guests.

craft room before and after

Today I’m going all Adele and telling you hello.

Remember when FrogTape challenged me to take an empty room and transform it with paint and color and $1000?

Cue the drums.

Cue the ticker tape parade.

Cue the pots and pans and wooden spoons in your kitchen.

Today is the day for a little before and after craft room amazingness.

Are you ready?  Have your party hat on?  Ready for choreography and dance moves?  Memorized all the verses to Eye of the Tiger?

Oh good.  Me, too. 🙂Continue reading

Hello Sherwin-Williams National Painting Week.

Nice to meet you.

So happy it’s May and there’s sunshine and birds tweeting and cows lowing and crickets chirping and we’re having a fish fry in the country.

The fish fry is to celebrate our new re-furbished and re-painted and re-made over and re-furnished community center.

I can’t say thank you enough to Sherwin-Williams all the volunteers and individuals who helped to make this possible.

Ready for a little before and after?Continue reading

14 Things You Can Accomplish With an Imagination Room

14 Things You Can Accomplish With an Imagination Room

imagination room paint colors

When you are in seventh grade and you have an imagination room tucked into the corner of your house at the top of the stairs, the world is your oyster.

There’s nothing you can’t accomplish.

No place you can’t visit.

No dream you can’t achieve.

After all Dr. Seuss was right “You have brains in your head, You have feet in your shoes.  You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

Oh, my seventh grade friend….

….the places you can go.Continue reading

It All Started With A Can of Paint

It All Started With A Can of Paint

view from here

Several months ago I was contacted by Sherwin-Williams to participate in National Painting Week 2016.

If you’ve followed along with the blog, you’ve seen other rooms I’ve created for them.

Like this one.

Or this one.

Or this one.

But this time Sherwin-Williams wanted to try something different.  Something bigger.  Something better.  Something much more amazing than a simple room makeover.

They wanted me to make over a space in my community.

A space with a view just like this.Continue reading

The Imagination Room Makeover

The Imagination Room Makeover

Before side window view picture

If you drove by last Tuesday and caught a glimpse of a cartwheel through the windows.

That was me.

Just an ordinary day in an ordinary farmhouse with an ordinary girl in red lipstick and yoga pants with paint on them getting ready for another room make-over.

I’m partnering with Frog Tape to think outside the box and completely make over a room from top to bottom.

And just between us?

I think this is my favorite make-over I’ve ever done before.

So let’s go all Julie Andrews and start at the very beginning.

Because it’s a very good place to start. 🙂Continue reading
